The power of chatting with a new Max Scherzer fan on Twitter

It all started with a simple tweet.

Or rather, it all started with a game of catch.

As the social media director at MASN, I see a ton of messages from fans coming through to us. One key part of controlling social media, as I so often stress to my team, is the importance of interacting with fans on a one-on-one level.

And boy, did it pay off. When Joe reached out to me, I tweeted back to him asking for a video. And hey, we went somewhat viral, with more than one million impressions on Facebook in a few hours.

As seen through the video below and through my social media interaction with this fan, there is so much power through personal interaction. Social media can be static if you choose, but if you put out the time, effort and care, it can be so personal and impactful.
